Tax My Booze, Baby You Lose

Mark Twain once quipped, “Patriotism is supporting your country all the time, and your government when it deserves it.” We agree – so let’s have some fun with it.

Surely you’ve heard of the three words that led to a revolution – taxation without representation. Now we are faced with over taxation with representation. Maybe it’s time for a new revolution; this one in the voting booth. We elected the very persons, from local  governments to the feds, who can’t manage their budgets, stop excessive spending, irresponsibly create waste, and pork it up with needless projects and persona perks – so they raise taxes or even worse, create new ones. Allegheny County Voters Speak

Tuesday November 2nd was a sad day for Allegheny Council Chairman Dan Onorato as he lost his bid for the governor’s race in Pennsylvania. We warned everybody:
Tax My Booze, Baby You Lose!

Not only did Mr. Onorato (Dem) lose his bid for the governor’s office, he failed to win the plurality of votes in Allegheny County – one of the strongest democratic counties in the Commonwealth; and his home county. He lost to Governor-elect Tom Corbett by 700 votes in the county. …on election day we get to choose…

Introducing Miss Appropriation

Hi. I’m Miss Appropriation and this is my rat terrier, Gouger. Maybe RAT terrier is really appropriate.

Steve Forbes once said, “The politicians say ‘we’ can’t afford a tax cut. Maybe ‘we’ can’t afford the politicians.” I say, “Maybe it’s the crazy quarks, and personal perks.” I work hard for my money – just like you. I’m not sure our politicians are doing the same.

  • Pennsylvania’s 253 member General Assembly is the most expensive, and the second largest, state legislature in the country with staff totaling nearly 3,000.
  • The legislature of Illinois has 1,023 staff – Ohio 465.
  • The annual salary for a Pennsylvania legislator is $78,314 – that’s the fourth-highest in the country.

  • A guaranteed pension that is among the highest in America.
  • They receive lifetime post-retirement health care.

In order to balance the legislative deficit, Pennsylvania Lawmakers may consider 74 new taxes for various services throughout the state, as proposed by Governor Ed Rendell.
